Casino de Monte Carlo 6q105k
If we are discussing the most luxurious casino in the world, and we are leaning towards roulette, then we have to mention the Casino de Monte Carlo which is the spiritual home of the game and continues to feature in the world's top 10 Luxury Casino lists. This hotel is on many people's bucket lists- it was on ours (tick, done, loved it).
Designed by Charles Garnier, this casino overlooks the Med and is famous for its Bohemian glass chandeliers and rococo ceilings. You'll need to dress up to visit- a jacket and port are required.
The Casino Monte Carlo is well known from many Bond movies including Never Say Never Again and Golden Eye, where Bond hooks up with the villainous Zenia Onatopp for a Martini (shaken, not stirred) at the bar.
Whenever we visit the Casino de Monte Carlo, we are always bowled over by the concentration of money. This is where the seriously rich come to play and it makes for fascinating people watching.
Inside the Casino it's incredibly lavish, with room upon room of almost intimidating rococo – towering columns, gilt, marble, chandeliers and enormous paintings.
To follow the big money, you'll need to escape the hordes on the slots and cheaper tables and head for the serious gambling in the Salons Privés right in the hub of this gloriously over the top building. Or head for the Mediterranean sunshine on the terrace which opened in 2011 for those who like to bet outdoors.
What can be better than making a Complete Bet on your favourite number with the deep blue Med in the background?

There's a renovated Salon Blanc bar to order your martinis at (en route to the outdoor terraces). And then there are some fabulous restaurants like the Buddha Bar- this is where this luxury casino suddenly gets hip.
Or try Le Train Bleu if you like Italian food, or Les Privés for high end French cuisine.
Casino de Monte Carlo- about as far from a high street betting shop as you can imagine!

In fact there's only one problem with going to the Casino de Monte Carlo in Monaco. If you ever visit Las Vegas and stay at MGM's Monte Carlo casino on the Strip, you'll probably find it's just about the tackiest thing on the planet. I mean, this is Las Vegas, so what did you expect? But we'd advise you to head somewhere else like the Bellagio, or you'll just spend your time comparing the two. And there is no comparison!
MGM (or rather their t venture vehicle Victoria Partners) have been accused of illegally copying the name of the famous Casino de Monte-Carlo in Monaco, but the operator of the Monte Carlo Resort & Casino in Las Vegas has stated that the Monaco casino does not hold trademark rights to the name in the U.S.
Victoria Partners, the t venture between MGM Mirage and Mandalay Resort Group has filed counterclaims contending that Société des Bains de Mer et du Cercle des Étrangers à Monaco or SBM for short (which runs the real Monte-Carlo Casino) does not have the rights to the Monte Carlo name.
The Las Vegas casino opened in 1996.
They do have a point- the Casino de Monte Carlo in Monaco is one of the most famous casinos in the world, and it opened in 1863.

The Bond franchise has dined out on this fact for years.
There are plenty of casino movies to choose from too, with poker hit ‘The Gambler’ and Kevin Spacey’s legendary blackjack film ‘21’ leading the charge. Then there’s Ocean’s Eleven of course. Roulette is also a common feature of Hollywood films, even though this game may not be as easy to portray on the silver screen as some of the other alternatives. Roulette also suffers from the fact that it is falsely pinned as being James Bond’s casino game of choice, when in fact the worlds’ most deadly secret agent enjoys nothing more than a few rounds of baccarat. Of course, that tends to depend on who he is pursuing at the time. Who knows, we might see a roulette movie based on something like the Ohio roulette scam in the future.
So what are the best roulette films out there? Well, it’s a subjective question, but here’s our vote:
The Roulette Table in Casablanca in Italian! (Well, the croupier’s speaking French). The Lucky Number? 22!
Casablanca (1942) 4w5h4f
If you are looking for the film that captures both the romance and the tragedy of roulette, the classic hit Casablanca is right up there. The game sits at the heart of one of the films’ central plot lines, with Rick’s Café American featuring a fixed play American Roulette at the American Cafe, but I guess it’s closer to despite the name). One day, the café owner (played by the iconic Humphrey Bogart) takes pity on a luckless, down–and-out gambler and encourages him to place all of his money on 22 in a final shot of glory. Of course, his number comes in (twice) and his whole existence takes a turn for the better. This is Hollywood, after all.
Croupier (1998) 645g3
A character driven film, Croupier rarely receives the praise or critical acclaim that it is due. Telling the story of failing writer Jack Manfred, it charts the characters’ descent into the immersive and captivating world of gambling, deceit and obsession. Working as a croupier for a leading casino, he soon falls in love with a regular player and becomes involved in a plot to cheat the owner out of millions. Bisecting the fine lines between morality and greed, Croupier produces a thrilling hook that accurately captures the thrill of live gambling.
Diamonds Are Forever (1971) 4x6365
Oh go on then, let’s talk about James Bond at the Roulette Table. We know he loves his baccarat (the Labouchere Strategy is his system of choice), but 007 heads to the roulette wheel in quite a few of the movies. In “Diamonds Are Forever”, Bond, hunting down diamond smugglers, pitches up in a Las Vegas casino where he plays, and wins, at roulette. The opening scenes of Dr No also feature roulette, plus the novels : Moonraker and Casino Royale.
